Najeeb Akhtar's father was M.Ishaque Tungekar and his mother was Ishrat Khatoon Mulla.  His paternal grandparents are Ismail Tungekar and Sharifa Bibi; his maternal grandfather is Ahmad Mia Mulla. He has four brothers and three sisters, named Muddassir, Irfan, Safdar Ahmad, Mukbil, Rahat, Fatima Rani and Musarrat Ara.
