Mazhar's father was Abdullah Kazi and his mother was Zubaida Khatoon Kazi.  His paternal grandfather is Ghulam Rasool Kazi; his maternal grandfather is Ziauddin Kazi. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Aziz, A.Haq, Shahjehan and Noorjehan. He has five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Anwarulhaq, Shamsulhaq (Ali), Izharulhaq, Waheedulhaq (Haji), Noorulhaq, Khursheed Ara, Shamsunisa and Akhtarunisa.
